Pattern: Desert Dawn
Identifiers / Alternate Names: This category covers a number of different items that could have actually been classed as "solid colors". However, all of these items have a speckled look to the finish consisting of what looks like tiny spots or flecks of brown (on the yellow) or light red (on the pink) paint. From far away they look like solid colors with a bit of texture to the finish. Also known as: Speckle, Flecks, Desert.
Item Type: Pie Plate / Shallow Dish Series 209
Years Manufactured: 1955 - 1960s
Values: Check below on Ebay for approximate prices
Sizes and ID#s: #209 (1.5 quart)
As far as we know, these pie plates came in both Yellow and Pink Desert Dawn. Interestingly, in ads we have seen them called “shallow dishes” instead of pie plates, but they do have the #209 stamp that pie plates are known for. This is an 8 1/2 inch pie plate dish.
Be careful when buying Desert Dawn in general - it can be difficult to see blemishes in the paint because of the speckled nature of the finish. Dirt or grime is fine, but you’ll want to hold it up against the light to see if you can see through any spots which means the paint has come off.
