Another confusingly named Pyrex promotional piece was this Empire Scroll Oval Casserole released in Fall 1965 whose name was used for another casserole pattern. At least this time, the other pattern seems to be somewhat related and was released a few months later for the 1965 Holidays. So it’s not too much of a leap to assume these were meant to be a set even though the pattern differs completely. In addition, this Empire Scroll casserole is 2.5 quart while the other one is 1.5 quart.
We are going to designate this one as Empire Scroll Filligree because of the type of scrollwork. We’ll call the other one Empire Scroll Vines because it looks like prickly vines with flowers (though some say it looks more like barbed wire).
The Empire Scroll Filligree consists of elegant black patterned scrollwork on an opal white base. It’s a standard oval #945 2 1/2 quart casserole that came with a clear lid and also a cradle with wooden handles as opposed to the white plastic ones. Not 100% sure about the handles though…
