This is one of the more intreresting Pyrex Utility Dishes that we’ve come across. I think it could easily be confused with a Refrigerator dish because of the approximate shape, the handles and the fact that it has an ID# of 507-B. The 500 series is generally reserved for standard refrigerator dishes, whereas other utility dishes we’ve found have numbers like #231. In addition, there is no capacity on the bottom of the dish which is quite interesting. The “dash B” that has been added to the ID# seems to point to the fact that this was a base and that it had a lid. Ours did not have a lid, though.
The 501-503 refrigerator dishes had “handles” like this one, except that they didn’t stick straight out of the sides. This dish measures approximately 10 1/2 by 7 1/2 by 2 inches and is an interesting green-blue with gray color that we hardly see in Vintage pyrex. It’s actually the approximate size of the largest #503 1 1/2 quart refrigerator box. If you happen to have more information about this dish (or an original box!), we’d appreciate it if you could let us know.
Update 7/07: Apparently, this utility dish was sometimes part of a promotion with Heinz as we have seen an original label for the dish. Not sure yet if this was ONLY sold as a Heinz promotion or if it was also sold separately in another fashion.
Update 11/07: Random thought - is it just coincidence that the number on this item is “507″? Take away the 0 and you get 57… as in 57 varieties of Heinz Hehe, maybe a coincidence but it’s interesting that we haven’t seen any other utility dishes labeled 507…
