Thanks to Alan (Mackem54)’s amazing scans of original Pyrex catalogues, we’ve been able to identify quite a few original promotional casseroles conclusively. This one has been labeled in a 1972 catalogue as “Seville” (probably after the Spanish town?) as seen in the picture above which is straight from the scan.
This casserole has a very beautiful and striking lid in orange and pink on white. Before Alan’s scan, we used to call this “Orange Rosettes” even though the main stylized rosette in the center was actually pink. In the pictures, the pink may look a little darker than it actually is. There are 4 other rosettes in orange at each of the 4 cardinal directions - and interestingly only the ones opposite each other are the same. The rest of the orange lines form a somewhat elaborate scrollwork of curlicues. There are also 4 tiny pink embellishments at each diagonal corner of the cover.
The base of the casserole is rather unremarkable solid orange in color - it sort of looks similar to the orange of the Friendship or Daisy lines. It’s the lid that’s the most interesting. The base is marked as a 045 2.5 quart casserole, and the lid has the usual 945C designation.
The casserole came with a gold-tone cradle that had a double candlewarmer mechanism on the bottom. It also has wooden handles instead of the white plastic ones.
