This is a fabulous promotional round casserole with a clear lid that has a really cool design on it. It’s been unofficially called the “Spirograph” promotional because of the resemblance of the lid design to the drawings produced by the geometric toy popular in the 70s (we had one!).
The base is a standard #475 2.5 quart casserole with a nice dark sky blue color. This color seems similar to Horizon Blue, but we believe it’s a little lighter. Definitely closer to a sky blue.
The clear lid is a standard model but has the “spirograph” designs in blue and green. The most interesting thing is that the “blue” design is on the outer top side of the lid, while the “green” design is on the INNER bottom side of the lid. We tried to take a picture below to show you how it looks when the lid is flipped over. Corning did a couple of different promotional items like this where they had designs on both sides of the lid. In the beginning, we didn’t know that it was on both sides because from a top down photo the clear lid makes it look like they’re on the same side of the lid.
This promotional casserole actually came with a bright green Melamine underplate instead of a cradle. To our knowledge, it was always included with the casserole, but more often than not the underplate is not found, as is the case with ours.
