Pattern: Advertising / Specialty
Identifiers / Alternate Names: This category includes pyrex items that were customized for companies, produced for advertising purposes, or made for special events such as one time employee gatherings. While there might not be much distinction between this category and the "Promotional / Unknown" category, we felt that because of the large number of advertising items (mugs in particular) that they should be placed in their own category to avoid cluttering the already crowded promotional category. In most cases, these items are not sets but single items.

This Diagonal Handle Pyrex mug has always been one of my favorites, but we only recently picked it up. It features three different scenes in plain black on opal white. The first is a picture of one of those really old vintage bicycles with the huge wheel in front and the tiny one in the back. There is a mustachioed guy with a baseball cap and what looks like 19th century garb.
The second scene is actually a silhouette of the Corning Glassblower logo. It is kind of cool to see the logo really large like this. When we first saw the small version of it that occurs on the bottoms of some of the older Pyrex items, we had thought it was someone shooting a rifle up into the air - other people had said the exact same thing.
The third scene is an action scene of a man and woman in older 19th century dres riding a tandem bike. The lady has a feather in the cap in her head and the guy has a mustache and hat. Both this scene and the first one are rather detailed-looking with fine lines… when you have this kind of detail it leads to some occasional “missing” pieces and lines in the printing at times.
The bottom of the cup says #1410 Pyrex / Microwave / USA, leading us to believe it isn’t as old. We do not have any information on how this mug was sold, whether it was sold in sets as a “regular” item or as a “promotional”, or if it was sold with another pyrex item such as a carafe. As always, if you know more about the mug, please let us know!
