Pyrex Love - Westinghouse Bowls

These wonderful clear Pyrex bowls were made by Corning for Westinghouse mixer products. The ribbed sides of the two bowls lend them a sort of Art Deco look to it, but we’ve called them “Beehive” bowls. We’ve seen these listed in Mauzy’s 3rd Ed. Unauthorized Collectors Guide on page 18, where they list a number of different Pyrex bowls that were made as 3rd party items for various different manufacturers of electric mixers. Also, you can sometimes find them on Ebay as part of a set along with the original vintage stand mixers. The ones we’ve seen are white and gray plastic along with metal beaters - the mixer has a sort of metal plate on the bottom to hold the bowl in place.

Neither bowl is marked with a capacity or a number, but both are stamped as “Pyrex Made In U.S.A. For Westinghouse.” What is interesting to us is that we have some Westinhouse Refrigerator Dishes that are NOT stamped as Pyrex but have their “W” symbol instead - we were wondering if they only contracted out to Pyrex to make the bowls.

The smaller bowl is 2 quarts and has a small pouring spout - neither bowl has handles. The larger bowl is interesting because as seen in the picture closeup above, it has a little indentation that goes INTO the bowl… I believe that there was some sort of piece on the mixer plate in order to hold the bowl steady that fit into that little indentation.

These bowls seem to be fairly common because they came with the mixers. The bowls are nice and deep which is quite nice for mixing things that get messy.
